Commemorating the passing anniversary of late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini;
The 24th passing anniversary of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was an occasion for people to recall his accomplishments especially those of forming an Islamic state and working towards justice for mankind.
Addressing a large crowd of mourners, leader of Iran\\\\\\\'s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a keynote speech said the Iranian nation would give a crushing response to the enemies with a high turnout in the upcoming presidential election.
He described the election as a manifestation of the will of the nation. The leader noted that people\\\\\\\'s participation in the election indicates their confidence in the Islamic establishment. According to Ayatollah Khamenei, the enemies are seeking to portray the election as a threat to the Islamic establishment whereas the vote is in fact a great opportunity.
Imam Khomeini changed the lives of Iranians and inspired people from other countries by guiding one of the greatest revolutionary movements of modern history to victory. His years of struggle against the tyranny of the US-backed Shah regime and capitalism served as a model for Muslim nations worldwide. Despite the passage of 24 years after his passing away, his thoughts and teachings still attract more people every day.
Ayatollah Khomeini passed away in June 1989, eleven days after he was taken to hospital for an operation to stop internal bleeding in May. He passed away but his legacy continues to live on forever.

Only eleven days until the eleventh presidential election in Iran remain.
All the candidates are busy campaigning and giving speeches to promote their plans for the public. They will present their plans until a day before the election which would be held on June 14th.
All of the eight candidates approved by the Guardian Council have been given a timetable by Iran\'s National Radio and Television Organization to introduce their plans to the public through different channels and different types of programs.
Runners grab any chance to travel to Iran\'s major and small cities to meet people in the city mosques, conference halls and stadiums, giving vows to solve their problems.
Comparing to the last presidential election, internet websites are more active in promoting their favorite candidates. Supporters have launched different weblogs to announce their campaign slogans. Different unofficial internet polls are being conducted but the results differ based on the political orientation of the websites.
On Friday May 31st 2013 the first debate show between the eight candidates was held. This time the debates are different from the heated but troubled debates of the last Election back in 2009. Instead of talking to each other, the candidates were answering the moderator\'s somewhat challenging questions.
In this episode of Iran Today we will take a closer look at the candidates\' plans and their views on the policies adopted by the previous administrations.

The fifth of June marks Naksa day or the setback during 1967 six-day war. At that time Israel launched a hostile war against Syria, Egypt and Jordan. After defeating Arab forces, Israel completed the occupation of the rest of the Palestinian territories and occupied vast areas of the Syria and Egypt.
Forty six years later, a war veteran said Palestinians were betrayed by Arab forces. Palestinian resistance groups forced Israeli forces to withdraw from Gaza in 2005. Israel now says that it no longer occupies Gaza but facts on the ground prove otherwise.
However this place under international law is occupied. You only have to be here to see the Israeli warplanes that dominate the sky and still fly over.

Islamophobic hate crimes have surged in UK following Woolwich incident, from attacks on mosques, racial abuse, assaults to anti-Muslim graffiti.
In this edition of the show we will discuss whether the Woolwich killing will be a catalyst for more negative portrayal of Islam and Muslims, or will authorities and officials use this as a chance to wipe off the negative image of Islam.
We will also ask our guests how UK\\\'s foreign policy involving wars in Muslim countries may provoke more acts, threatening UK\\\'s national security.

On this episode of the program, George Galloway comments on the Turkish unrest and asks if the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is paying the price for the policies he has been pursuing across the border in Syria and elsewhere over the last few years.
Turkey has been the scene to a fierce anti-government unrest in the last week. The unrest broke out after police crushed a sit-in staged in Taksim Square on May 31 which was held to protest against the government plan for Gezi Park.
The anti-government demonstrations have mainly been held in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Mugla, Antalya, and many other cities and towns.
Turkish Human Rights Foundation says some 4,300 people have been hurt or sought medical care for the effects of tear gas inhalation. Four people have also been killed during the unrest.
Galloway asks if Erdogan is earning the wage of his sin in support of the Syrian militants. The government of Erdogan has been one of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad\'s harshest critics and has supported the foreign-backed militants fighting to topple his government. The Syrian crisis resulted in the death of many Syrians and the destruction of the Syrian cities.

Polls have officially opened in Iran for presidential, and city and rural council elections with nearly 50.5 million people eligible to vote. The Iranians began casting their ballots at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) on Friday with the polls scheduled to remain open for ten hours. The time can be extended if necessary. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cast his ballot minutes into the polls.
More than 1.6 million of those eligible to vote are first-time voters. Over 60,000 polling stations have been set up across the country, while Iranian nationals abroad will also be also able to vote at 285 overseas polling stations. Vote counting will begin at the polling stations immediately after the voting ends. Voting may be extended if the Interior Ministry sees necessary.

BAE Systems - the UK\'s largest arms manufactures - was the first stop on what would be a fast-paced journey across Central London highlighting the capital\'s ties to the global arms trade.
With scores of protestors arrested during Tuesday\'s Stop G8 demos, the police presence was a heavy one. Demonstrators from a coalition of anti-capitalists groups explained why the arms firms provoked their anger.
With just days to go before the G8 Summit kicks off in Ireland the capital is the focal point. With the demonstrators taking the media and other protestors on what seemed like a magical mystery tour of locations associated with the arms trade in London.
For many taking part in the flash demonstrations, the arms trade may have been the Wednesday\'s focus but it is the G8 summit being held in the Lough Erne resort in Ireland\'s County Fermanagh for which the most anger is reserved.
The leaders of the world\'s eight most powerful countries have already begun arriving for the two-day summit. Protestors say they will be doing all they can to highlight their objections to a group they say is failing in its duty to the very people they are supposed to represent.

Figures released by the Committee of French Car Makers show that in the past 6 months, the number of new cars sold in the country has dropped by 11 percent compared to last year\'s figures. French brands dominate the country\'s roads. And they are the biggest victims too. Peugeot Citroen has lost 9,5 percent of the market figures and Renault has lost 4 percent in just one month : a clear sign that the French now see cars as less of a necessity. The forecasts for the next six months show the car industry will continue to go suffer in the coming months. New figures now show the French car industry is now in deep trouble. Experts say this will certainly have a great impact on the French economy. This leaves almost no doubt that France is in a recession and may not escape it anytime soon.
