The leader of Russia's Communist Party says the massacre in Houla, which killed over 100 people, is an intelligence plot concocted by Western politicians. [05 June 2012] West follows Israeli agenda in Syria: Glenn - English The Syrian opposition claims to have created a new armed front to unite forces along the Turkish border that have taken up arms against Damascus. A member of Syrian rebels told the press about their existence in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The front says it's an umbrella group of some 12-thousand registered members ready to fight the government of President Bashar al-Assad. Meanwhile, armed gangs say they killed at least 80 security forces over the weekend. Russia and China continue to support a political solution to the problem while the UN beef's up talk of a potential civil war in the country and US Susan Rice talks of illegal military intervention into Syria without US Congressional or UN approval. Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, from the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement from Idaho to further talk over the issue.

[07 June 2012] 'SCO can prevent terrorism in Asia' - English Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has lashed out at NATO's eastward expansion, saying it's aimed at stopping the growth of the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Ahmadinejad said NATO members are trying to resurrect what he called past colonialist relations, adding "the colonialists are equally opposed to the development of China, Russia, India and Iran as well as other members of the SCO." He further called for a new world order, saying the current one has failed because of its "inhumane and unfair nature." [07 July 2012] Geneva Meeting Clear or Cloudy Sky over Syria - English The latest meeting in Geneva on the current situation in Syria seems to lack executive mechanism as well as true will for its implementation. The special UN-envoy Kofi Annan says the meetings have not helped his plan, while the Syrian opposition outside the country has failed to form a unified political stance. Russia accuses the United States and its Western allies of trying to distort a previous deal reached by world powers on Syria in the Geneva meeting. On June 30, an agreement was made during the Geneva meeting on a Syrian-led transitional governing body that "could include members of the present government and the opposition and other groups, and shall be formed on the basis of mutual consent."

Another row could be brewing between China and Japan, this time over a disputed gas field. On Wednesday Japan\'s chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga expressed serious concern over the building of a drilling rig by China, near an offshore gas field claimed by both countries in the East China Sea. China\'s unilateral development of the field, he said, was something his nation could not accept. At China\'s Foreign Ministry, spokeswoman Hua Chunying has dismissed the complaint.

Ecuador\'s President Rafael Correa is on an official visit to Russia where he signed agreements to boost trade and energy cooperation. Correa also met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

The US and Russia have come to the conclusion that there is no military solution to Syria\'s crisis and all efforts must be focused on a political roadmap. Some US allies notably Saudi Arabia still insist President Bashar al Assad\'s government should be toppled militarily. Delayed for months, the Geneva Two peace conference aims to resolve the crisis through dialog between the Syrian government and a yet undecided opposition that includes al Qaeda-affiliated militants bent on continuing a deadly terrorist campaign. So how near is a political solution?

Earlier, Russian president Vladimir Putin hailed the deal between Iran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany ---- which was clinched in Geneva following intensive talks. Putin called the deal a breakthrough on a decade-long nuclear standoff. He stressed that it is the first step on a long and difficult path and a step forward toward a permanent solution to the dispute over Iran\'s nuclear program.

Russia says the aim of the Geneva Two conference is NOT seeking regime change in Syria. According to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the main objective of the conference is in fact to launch an inter-Syrian dialog. He added that the issue of the ouster of the Syrian government is not part of the original US-Russian initiative. Lavrov also lashed out at the UN decision to withdraw Iran\'s invitation to Syria talks as a mistake. He made it clear that the decision however will not affect Iran\'s efforts in fighting terrorism. The Russian foreign minister said the future of Syria must be determined by both the government and the opposition.
