The Lebanese Resistance Movement said it has the capability to be victorious in any future war, Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah stated in a televised speech on Wednesday night. \\\"Israelis are still suffering from the shock of their defeat in the 33-day war,\\\" Nasrallah said, noting that the Israeli regime is still investigating the reasons behind their defeat in the 2006 war. \\\"Two hundred and fifty rockets were launched at Israel on the last day of the July war,\\\" he said, recalling how the then Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert described the defeat as \\\'catastrophic\\\'. Hezbollah\\\'s leader took pride in the military achievements of the Lebanese movement, emphasizing that its rockets are capable of hitting targets as far as Haifa and Tel Aviv. Nasrallah voiced support for the Lebanese army and highlighted the need for national unity within Lebanon as the key to counter the US-Israeli strategy of fomenting sectarian disputes in the country and the region. \\\"The July [2006] was an Israeli trick,\\\" he pointed out, noting that if Hezbollah had been defeated, Israel would have expanded the war to Syria. \\\"The second stage of the Israeli attack was aimed at bringing down President Bashar al-Assad\\\'s government,\\\" Nasrallah added, noting that Hezbollah\\\'s victory in Lebanon thwarted this objective and prevented Syria from falling under the US-Israeli scheme. Hezbollah\\\'s leader blamed the West, headed by the United States, for preventing dialogue on Syria and supporting terrorist activities in the country. \\\"There is a US-Israeli project against Syria,\\\" he stated. \\\"The US and Israel consider Syria as a problem, because Syria is a real supporter of resistance.\\\" The Lebanese leader also accused the West of heaping pressure on Iran because of its support for the Palestinian cause. The Syrian government says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings. The anti-Syria Western regimes have been calling for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, but Russia and China remain strongly opposed to the Western drive to oust Assad. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 28, "Our Western partners... together with some of Syria's neighbors are essentially encouraging, supporting and directing an armed struggle against [the Syrian government]." Press TV has conducted an interview with Jonathan Steele, former foreign editor of the Guardian and the author of Ghosts of Afghanistan, to further talk over the issue.

The government of Myanmar refuses to recognize the Rohingyas, who it claims are not native and classifies them as illegal migrants, although they have lived in Myanmar for generations.

[07 Aug 2012] West plans to take over Middle East nations Analyst - English Syrian security forces have clashed with foreign-sponsored insurgents in several neighborhoods in the country's largest city of Aleppo as part of their efforts to clear the city of the armed groups. The Syrian government forces entered the al-Sakhour area inside Aleppo and arrested between 200 and 250 insurgents, 70 of whom are believed to be foreigners. Meanwhile, the Syrian armed gangs attacked a traffic police station in central Aleppo on Tuesday and opened fire on the Syrian police forces, leading to casualties. The foreign-backed insurgents receive arms and support from several Western and regional states, including Saudi Arabia. Many people, including security forces, have been killed in the unrest in Syria that began in March 2011. This is while the United Nations has pulled its observers out of Aleppo due to, what it called, the worsening situation in the city. Almost 20 UN observers returned to the mission's headquarters in Damascus. Damascus says, "outlaws, saboteurs, and insurgents" are behind the unrest in the country, while the opposition accuses the security forces of killing the protesters. The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed insurgents are foreign nationals. Press TV has conducted an interview with Dan Dicks, founder of Press for Truth, from Toronto, to further discuss the issue.

[08 Aug 2012] Kidnapping Iranian pilgrims crime against humanity - English Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has called on the United Nations to act immediately to secure the release of the Iranian nationals abducted in Syria and Libya. "The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran calls for the immediate release of its abducted nationals and is of the view that using the hostages as human shields violates... international law and (the) human rights of these innocent civilians," Salehi said in a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday. "I would like to seek the cooperation and the good offices of Your Excellency for securing the release of these hostages," he added. A UN spokesman confirmed that the letter had been received but did not offer an immediate response. On August 4, 48 Iranians, who were traveling on a bus from Damascus International Airport to the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (AS) on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, were abducted by insurgents. Three of the abductees have reportedly been killed. Insurgents from the self-proclaimed Free Syrian Army have threatened to kill the other abductees. Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohsen Saleh, professor at the Lebanese University, to further discuss the issue.
