Iran and the five veto-wielding powers of the UN Security Council plus Germany: Geneva 3: Day 2. Details of the meetings are still kept behind closed doors. Some headlines read: Iran says \'serious issues\' remain in nuclear talks. France, Iran trade barbs but ministers may come for nuclear deal. Iran\'s FM Mohammad Javad Zarif said \"details and wording\" of the document were being discussed, with Iran\'s red line, uranium enrichment, under further discussions. And while the spokesman for EU\'s foreign policy chief says negotiations were \"meaningful, detailed and substantial\" Iran\'s deputy foreign minister says \"some major differences still\" remain. Stay tuned for another edition of the Debate, which we ask: Is a deal closer, or will talks end without an agreement?

Tensions between Ukraine, Europe and Russia are running high over Kiev\'s decision to suddenly scrap plans to sign a deal with the European Union. Russia is now accusing the Europeans of blackmailing Kiev to sign an association agreement with the EU.
The Russian president says the E-U is using threats and pressure to shift Ukraine out of Russia\'s orbit. Vladimir Putin has also criticized the E-U for supporting protests against scrapping the deal. Putin made the comments shortly after the E-U accused Kiev of bowing to Russian pressure. On Thursday, Ukraine suspended signing the association agreement with Europe, citing economic concerns and trade issues with Russia. The decision has sparked protests in Kiev. Demonstrators have taken to the streets to oppose the government move, with the opposition leaders joining the rallies.

U-S, Russian, and U-N envoys are scheduled to hold a meeting in Geneva on Monday to agree on a date for an international c on Syria.
A U-N spokesman said United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon should announce a date. It would be the first gathering to bring the government and rebels together. U-N-Arab League mediator Lakhdar Brahimi and U-N, Russian, and U-S envoys will be attending Monday\'s meeting. Whether Iran and other key players, such as Saudi Arabia, will be invited will also be discussed on Monday. A U-N diplomat said the international conference on Syria may be held in January, but the date will be announced after the talks. The U-N says the 32-month Syria conflict has left over 100-thousand people dead.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are preparing for the fourth day of talks on the Iranian nuclear energy program in Geneva, Switzerland. Hours before they wrapped up Friday\'s discussions, all the signs looked positive that a final deal could be sealed to end a decade-long standoff over the Iranian nuclear energy program.
The chief diplomats of the US, France, Britain and Germany said they will be joining the Geneva talks on Saturday. The Chinese foreign minister is also expected to arrive later in the day. They\'re expected to narrow the differences and finalize a nuclear deal with Iran, which fell through in the last round of talks a fortnight ago. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is already in Geneva and has held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif. Zarif also held multiple meetings with EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, with the last one ending late on Friday night.

The Leader of Iran\'s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani have both hailed the nuclear deal clenched between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in Geneva.
Ayatollah Khamenei thanked the Iranian negotiating team, saying they\'ve done a praiseworthy job. The leader described the Geneva deal as a success and called on the Iranian negotiators to resist any excessive demand in the future. Meanwhile, President Rouhani has said that under the deal, Iran can continue to enrich uranium on its soil. The president also said the nuclear deal with the P-five-plus-one will see the sanctions against Iran lifted step by step. Rouhani noted that if the P-five-plus-one group lives up to its obligations, Iran will also abide by the terms of the agreement.

The Taliban are angry at Afghanistan\'s assembly of elders, or Loya Jirga after it endorsed a security deal with the US. In a statement, the militants condemned the deal as a QUOTE- pact of slavery. The statement also said the deal would benefit neither side. The deal now has to go to the Afghan parliament for approval. The Bilateral Security Agreement, or B-S-A allows the US troops to stay in Afghanistan after NATO pulls out in 2014. Afghan president Hamid Karzai has said the deal won\'t be signed until after the 2014 election. The US has urged Karzai to sign the pact as soon as possible- a demand rejected by the Afghan president.

Iran says it\'s ready to negotiate a comprehensive and final deal on its nuclear energy program. The preliminary accord, which was reached on Sunday, meant to lay the foundations for a comprehensive agreement later this year.
Zarif was speaking at Tehran\'s Mehrabad Airport upon arrival back home from Geneva. He said the Iranian nation showed that no one can talk to them through pressure. Zarif also said Tehran\'s right to uranium enrichment is enshrined in the nuclear deal. Based on the interim deal, Iran has agreed to limit the level of its enrichment activities for the next six months in exchange for the easing of sanctions. The foreign minister was given a heroic welcome by the people who\'d gathered at the airport several hours before his arrival.

Officials in Iraq\'s Kurdistan Region say they\'re making progress with forming the new government following September\'s elections.
Kurdistan\'s main opposition party - the Change Movement - came second in the elections. The party has now agreed to join the government with the winning Kurdistan Democratic Party.
The Change Movement and the Democratic Party have enough seats to form a majority. But Kurdistan\'s Islamic parties are also trying to join the new government. It\'s unclear who will take on the role of the opposition.
The Change Movement is still discussing details of the new government with Kurdistan\'s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.
The Democratic Party\'s historical partner - the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan - will also join the new government - despite its third place finish in the elections. However, officials say that Prime Minister Barzani wants to include other parties rather than continue the duopoly between the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union.

At least eight people are killed as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake rattles southern Iran.
45 others were also injured as the quake struck near the city of Borazjan in Bushehr province. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the victims. Iran sits on major faultlines and has suffered several big earthquakes in recent years. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed 40 people in southeastern Iran in April.

As human rights abuses by israel are on the rise, Tel Aviv is set to join the UN Human rights Council. The irony has not been missed, as currently Israel is threatening to expel 70 thousand Bedouins from the Negev Desert who have lived on the land for at least a thousand year. Many see Israel being part of the UN Human Rights Council as problematic. This as Tel Aviv continues its siege on the Gaza Strip and Gazans have very little energy sources, clean water or proper sewage system.

The head of the so-called Free Syrian Army says his forces are ready to join the Syrian army and drive out al-Qaeda-linked terrorists who have taken over militant-held areas.
General Salim Idris has described as very dangerous the militant group calling itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or the I-S-I-S. Thousands of foreign militants have in recent months joined its ranks. General Idris also claimed that besides fighting with Syrian forces, the F-S-A forces have fought another war with al-Qaeda at dozens of different locations over the past six months. The so-called Free Syrian Army also says that it has dropped the precondition for President Bashar al-Assad to leave power before the upcoming Geneva peace conference.

Pro-EU demonstrators are holding a new rally in Ukraine\'s capital Kiev against the government of President Viktor Yanukovych.
They want Yanukovych to resign. This, after he withdrew from an agreement which would have paved the way for Kiev to join the European Union. Pro-EU demonstrators accuse Yanukovych of shelving the deal under Russia\'s Pressure. Out of anger at Russia, they have torn down a statue of Vladimir Lenin, the late founder of the former Soviet Union, of which Ukraine used to be a republic. The US and Afghanistan are at loggerheads over a stalled security agreement that President Hamid Karzai has refused to sign despite increasing US pressure. The deal would allow between 12,000 to 14,000 troops, mostly American, to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2014. Under the pact, American forces would be able to enter Afghan homes as part of their operations and enjoy legal immunity, two of the most important sticking points. President Karzai suggests he\'s being bullied into signing an unfair pact.
Is Afghanistan best with or without this deal?
What would a permanent US stay in the country mean?

A senior Russian lawmaker says US attempts to influence the situation in Ukraine are a desire to take revenge for Washington\'s defeat in Syria. Alexei Pushkov says US interference in Ukraine is to show that the West is still the force that determines the course of events in global affairs. He emphasized that the West\'s meddling in the events in Ukraine suggests that the country is treated as a semi-colony. Pushkov also says the direct involvement of the EU and the US in Ukraine is a new form of political aggression. Ukraine has been hit with a wave of political unrest since late November when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a trade pact with the European Union.
