In Bahrain, demonstrations have been held against the regime\'s violent crackdown and the killing of pro-democracy protesters.
In the predominantly Shia village of Bani Jamrah in the northwest, people protested peacefully over the murder of two protesters by the regime forces. Carrying pictures of the slain protesters, they formed a human pyramid at the end of the rally and waved the Bahraini flags. The village has been the scene of a brutal crackdown, with regime forces opening fire on unarmed protesters on many occasions. Earlier on Friday, the police fired tear gas and stun grenades at anti-regime protesters on the island of Sitra, south of the capital Manama. Since 2011, demonstrations against the al Khalifa regime have been held almost every day in Bahrain. Troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were called in to assist the Bahraini regime in its crackdown on protesters.

Thousands of people have staged a rally in the streets of the Jordanian capital Amman to protest against a planned visit by the US Secretary of State. The protesters also expressed anger at the so-called peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The protesters came from Arab nationalist groups and Jordanian tribes. They chanted anti-US slogans and called on Palestinian groups to reject the so-called peace process. They demanded Jordan\'s king Abdullah to annul the 1994 peace treaty between Israel and Jordan. The protest comes as the US Secretary of State has been trying to push Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas to accept a deal over occupied territories.

Us President Barack Obama has once again stressed the need to enforce existing sanctions on Iran over its nuclear energy program.
Obama has repeated his anti-Iran remarks during a joint press conference with visiting French President Francois Hollande in Washington. He says the U-S and France both insist on the sanctions even as they know this would endanger the possibility of a diplomatic solution. He says the U-S has recently intensified its measures to identify and punish individuals and companies that violate the existing anti-Iran sanctions. Obama went further to threaten that sanctions may be tightened if the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group fail. The French president\'s visit to the U-S follows the visit to Iran of a French business delegation which sparked criticism from Washington.

Over the past 3 years, Egypt has turned into an inhospitable place for journalists to work in. In 2013, Egypt was listed as the third most dangerous country for a journalist to work in falling only after Iraq and Syria.
According to a newly released report by the Press Freedom Watchdog, 2013 was one of the hardest years for media personnel in Egypt -- both under former president Mohamed Morsi and months that followed his removal. Violations against the press ranged from physical attacks to legal persecution under the pretext of spreading false information Last year, six journalists were killed while on the job. Another danger faced by journalists in Egypt is a growing distrust of the public against foreign news organizations.

Iran strongly condemns remarks by Bahraini foreign minister that Tehran is interfering in the Arab kingdom\'s internal affairs.
Iran\'s foreign ministry summoned the Bahraini charge d\'affaires in Tehran to protest the comments by Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said such remarks show the Manama officials\' confusion regarding the legal demands of the oppressed people of Bahrain. She also urged the small Persian Gulf state not to get support from foreign forces in suppressing anti-regime protests. Pro-democracy protesters have been holding rallies in Bahrain since 2011, calling for the Al Khalifa family to relinquish power. Scores of people have been killed and thousands arrested ever since.

The US Secretary of State criticizes Russia for what he calls support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
John Kerry has said that with support from Moscow, Damascus stonewalled the second round of peace talks in Geneva. He added that such support would let the Syrian president continue destroying his own country. Kerry also blamed the Syrian government for the failure of the Geneva talks-- saying the government delegation refused to open up one moment of discussion during the meetings. Kerry made the remarks hours after Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem accused Washington of trying to create a very negative climate for dialog in Geneva.

Saudi media outlets have reported that the country\'s interior minister, Mohammed bin Nayef, will take over the intelligence chief post following his return from a trip to the US.
Saudi media outlets, citing Western security sources, say Mohammed bin Nayef will succeed Bandar bin Sultan as the intelligence chief. Nayef will also take over a number of external security affairs which have no relation with the intelligence department of the Interior Ministry. Bandar bin Sultan is accused of masterminding the terrorist networks that train and finance terrorists in Syria and some other countries in the region. Political analysts believe that the new appointment is being made to enhance the influence of Nayef in the government, especially in the area of ties with the US.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says it will not allow the presence of an international force in a future Palestinian state.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri has said in a statement that the presence of an international force under a peace deal with Israel would be no different from the Israeli occupation. He urged the United States to revise its position since Hamas won\'t allow anyone to undermine its rights. Abu Zuhri also called for a united front of factions to reject the so-called peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and their outcome. He further said that the Kerry plan was put together by Americans and the Zionist entity to eradicate the Palestinian cause. Earlier, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh slammed the talks, saying the resistance movement would not be bound by any deal with Israel.

Media reports say the US is re-visiting its options on Syria to step up pressure on the Arab nation.
U-S paper The Wall Street Journal says the move means Washington will again consider military and intelligence options, that were previously presented to the White House but set aside in favor of pursuing international talks. The options reportedly range from expanding efforts to train and equip insurgents, to setting-up no-fly zones over Syria. This comes as the U-S is already funding and supplying arms to the militants fighting to topple the Syrian government. The arms supplies have however failed to make changes on the ground in Syria in favor of the insurgents.

Tel Aviv sends troops into a U-N-designated area separating Lebanon and Israel to collect an Israeli drone after it crashed in the area.
Locals and the Lebanese army witnessed the incident but there were no clashes. The cause of the crash is still unknown. Israeli aircraft regularly violate Lebanon\'s airspace. A buffer zone called the Blue Line was drawn between Israel and Lebanon in 2000 after Israeli troops withdrew from southern Lebanese territories. Beirut has repeatedly filed complaints with the U-N over the Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace. But the world body has failed to take any measures to end such violations.

In Beijing, the Chinese government has called for a renewed effort to reach a long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
With agreement in Vienna a real possibility, Chinese policymakers are busy thinking about what that might mean. Western politicians say the economic damage inflicted by the sanctions they have imposed has forced Iran to the negotiating table. Many Chinese analysts, however, say the main impetus towards a deal could now be coming from America. The US, Chinese experts say, needs better relations with Iran to wind down its commitments in southwest Asia.
