Rival insurgent groups continue to fight each other in syria. In the latest development, the so-called Free syrian Army has seized a compound held by al-Qaeda-linked militants in syria\'s northwest.
Opposition sources say the F-S-A insurgents seized the compound after chasing fighters loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Aleppo\'s Manjib town. The I-S-I-S militants reportedly used car bombs for the first time to defend the compound. The foreign-backed battle against the syrian government has turned into full-scale infighting in recent days. The al-Qaeda-linked group has suffered huge losses in two days of fighting against an alliance of militant groups in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. Dozens from both sides have been killed in clashes since Friday.

Tensions in Egypt continue to run high ahead of a referendum on a new constitution. More than 50 students have been injured in a police crackdown.
some of the students are in critical condition. The violence broke out in Assiut and Minya as police fired tear gas and bird shots to disperse anti-government students. On Saturday, the army-installed government said it will confront the Muslim Brotherhood protesters with full force. It accused the group of trying to disrupt the referendum to be held later in January. Egypt has been the scene of almost daily protests since the country\'s first democratically-elected president was ousted by the military last July. Protesters demand Mohamed Morsi\'s reinstatement.

Media reports also say that Riyadh put heavy pressure on Lebanon to extradite Majed al-Majed before his death in detention on Saturday. Meanwhile, Iran\'s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi has said that Tehran doesn\'t have much information about the death of Majed, but it knows he died under suspicious circumstances. Majed was the man behind the recent terrorist attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut. Syrian opposition sources say that hardly any insurgents from the al-Qaeda-affiliated group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are left in the northern city of Aleppo. The UK based Observatory for Human Rights says ISIL militants withdrew from the Inzarat neighborhood of Aleppo after clashes with militants from the so-called Free Syrian Army and other insurgent groups. The Observatory says the foreign-backed F-S-A had earlier overrun the I-S-I-L\'s headquarters in the city. The bodies of at least 42 people executed by I-S-I-L were reportedly found at the base. Meanwhile, some reports suggest that the ISIL has taken the upper hand against the FSA in the city of Raqqah. The al-Qaeda-linked group is said to be in control of several key positions in the city. A large number of people, including civilians, have been killed during the infighting.

Syria\'s war spillover affecting countries thousands of kilometers away: the US Federal Bureau of Investigation is sounding the alarm over radicalized homegrown militants.
FBI Director James Comey says he\'s concerned about the militants inside the US who would be radicalized after returning from Syria. He says dozens of Americans have gone to Syria to fight alongside insurgents against the Syrian government. Comey has expressed concern that Syria has turned into a training ground for a new generation of terrorists. The American official has also acknowledged that it would be very hard to track such radicalized homegrown terrorists.

Washington has reacted to comments by an israeli minister who insulted the US secretary of state a little earlier.
This, after the Israeli minister of military affairs said that John Kerry\'s plan for the so-called peace talks between Tel Aviv and the Palestinians Authority was not worth the paper it was written on. Now the US State Department says that Moshe Yaalon\'s comments are offensive and inappropriate. According to Israeli media reports, Yaalon has also, during private conversations, implied that Kerry is a nuisance, by saying that he should take his Nobel prize and leave us alone. The remarks have drawn angry reactions from Israeli officials and the opposition, who say such tongue-lashing comments could destroy Tel-Aviv\'s relations with Washington. Israel\'s Environmental Protection minister has gone beyond that by calling on the prime minister to fire Yaalon and ministers who are in line with him. Kerry\'s proposal for the so-called peace process include a security plan for the Jordan Valley in the West Bank. Under the plan, Israeli forces must withdraw from the Valley - - a proposal Tel Aviv is opposed to.

The raging conflict in Syria is affecting efforts to neutralize its chemical arsenal.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says security challenges have slowed the transport of the Arab country\'s chemical weapons abroad for destruction. The OPCW says it\'s taking additional measures to complete its mission, and that Syria\'s chemical arms will be destroyed as planned by the end of June. Damascus agreed to hand over its chemical weapons to the body as part of a plan proposed by Russia to prevent a US attack on the country. Washington threatened airstrikes on Syria, following the August 21 chemical attack near the Syrian capital. The gas attack killed hundreds of people there. Both Damascus and Moscow say it was carried out by insurgents to provoke a Western invasion of Syria.

Hariri says despite the disagreements over Syria, Lebanon needs stability and he\'s optimistic about its future. Lebanon has been without a functioning government since Prime Minister Najib Mikati resigned last March. A caretaker cabinet has been running the country since. Fears over Syria-related violence have added to the pressure on politicians to find a compromise.
