Occupy protests on Prairies draw hundreds; crowd includes seniors, children
CALGARY - Hundreds gathered in Prairie cities to speak out against a growing gap between rich and poor.
Among the crowd at the Occupy Calgary event were seniors, families with young children, students and even dogs.
Police estimate between 300 and 400 flooded a pedestrian avenue near shopping centre and several corporate head offices.
Adam Phillips, 26, brought along his six-month-old son, Sylas.
He says he doesn't want Sylas to grow up in a world that's run by one per cent of the population.
Protester Chad McKinley, 33, says he and his wife both work, but still have a tough time making ends meet.
McKinley says he considers himself one of the fortunate ones.
He says society was more fair during his parents' generation, and that the middle class has evaporated over the past several decades.

The US police have used force against anti-wall street protesters again. Police in Oakland removed tents put up by the demonstrators, and arrested over 30 people. Such actions have failed to end the months-long anti-wall street movement that has engulfed large swathes of America.

The revolution in Bahrain gained momentum. You may remember the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, set up by the Al-Khalifa regime recently to investigate reports of rights abuse during the crackdown.
The Commission's findings accused the regime of using excessive force, cited rights abuses, and called for steps to be taken for these incidents not to occur.
Yet this past week, Saudi-backed forces yet again attacked anti-regime protesters, injuring dozens. In one example, police arrested human rights activist Zainab al-Khawaja near the capital Manama. Zainab's relatives said she'd been handcuffed, dragged and beaten by the police.

From presstv -
A political analyst says the Syrian government has the legal right to target the US military and intelligence drones operating over Syria, Press TV reports.
“Syria has the right to use military capability to disturb this mission and even to attack those aircraft,” said Hisham Jaber, the director of Center for Middle East Studies in an interview with Press TV on Saturday.
He made the comment after NBC News claimed earlier that the US military has dispatched a “good number” of unmanned drones for operations in Syrian airspace to monitor “the Syrian military attacks against opposition forces and civilians.”
“They [the Syrian government] can sue them [the US] before the international court,” Jaber added.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Hundreds of people, including many Syrian security forces, have been killed in the course of the turmoil.
Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. The West and the Syrian opposition, however, accuse the government of killing the protesters
