Europe is shuddering under the threat of its worst storm in years. Hurricane-force winds lash mainland Europe, leaving five people dead or missing.
Travel and transport are disrupted, with thousands forced to flee their homes. So far, Britain seems to be bearing the brunt, with 15000 homes evacuated. The Thames Barrier, designed to protect London from flooding, will remain shut on Thursday night. Across Britain, more than 100-thousand homes are without power. Prime Minister David Cameron has held two emergency meetings to discuss the situation. Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden are on alert. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled across northern Europe while rail and ferry services are shut down.

Rival insurgent groups continue to fight each other in syria. In the latest development, the so-called Free syrian Army has seized a compound held by al-Qaeda-linked militants in syria\'s northwest.
Opposition sources say the F-S-A insurgents seized the compound after chasing fighters loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Aleppo\'s Manjib town. The I-S-I-S militants reportedly used car bombs for the first time to defend the compound. The foreign-backed battle against the syrian government has turned into full-scale infighting in recent days. The al-Qaeda-linked group has suffered huge losses in two days of fighting against an alliance of militant groups in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. Dozens from both sides have been killed in clashes since Friday.

Tension is still running high in Egypt. More demonstrations have been held in the cities of Giza and Alexandria.
Protesters in the two cities chanted slogans denouncing last year\'s military coup. In Alexandria, an angry crowd torched a vehicle after police targeted them. Some of the protesters also gathered at the journalists\' union and burned copies of government newspapers in a show of discontent over the curbs on freedom of expression. Muslim Brotherhood supporters have been staging almost daily protests to demand the reinstatement of ousted president Mohamed Morsi. Friday\'s demonstrations turned violent after security forces clashed with protesters in major cities. At least 17 protesters were killed and dozens injured. Meanwhile, the army-installed government pledged to confront the Muslim Brotherhood with full force after the group called for a million-man march on Wednesday.

Iraqi security forces are preparing for a major attack on Fallujah to retake the city from al-Qaeda-linked militants.
A security official says Special Forces have conducted operations in the city. The army has also been deployed around Fallujah ahead of the operation to provide residents with a safe passage. Earlier, a senior military commander said it will take Iraqi forces up to three days to fully dislodge al-Qaeda-linked militants from the two cities in the western Anbar province. Iraqi security forces have been combating al-Qaeda-linked insurgents in the western Anbar province in recent days. The fighting has killed many from both sides.

A report by The Jerusalem Post suggests that the Saudi Ambassador to the US Adel al-Jubeir plays an important role in boosting relations between Tel Aviv and Riyadh. He frequently holds secrets meetings with the leaders of Jewish organizations in Washington. Based on the leaked information from their latest meeting, al-Jubeir has harshly criticized the US government\'s policies in the Middle East. He has even mentioned that Washington has betrayed Riyadh in some cases. The Saudi ambassador\'s remarks come as political norms usually prevent a diplomat from openly criticizing the host country. The report suggests that the Saudi diplomat made those comments despite being aware that the conversation was probably being monitored by the NSA. As the gap between Riyadh and Washington becomes deeper, the Arab country has apparently turned to Israel for support.

Tensions in Egypt continue to run high ahead of a referendum on a new constitution. More than 50 students have been injured in a police crackdown.
some of the students are in critical condition. The violence broke out in Assiut and Minya as police fired tear gas and bird shots to disperse anti-government students. Reports from Syria say Kurdish fighters have managed to recapture a key town in the country\'s north-east.
Press TV sources say the Kurdish People\'s Protection Units, known as YPG, have regained control of Tall Hamis town near the Turkish border. The Kurdish fighters retook the town following fierce fighting with the Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were heavily occupying the area. Reports say the YPG forces have also advanced in al-Husseinia village which is located near Tal Hamis. The victory is not the first for the YPG, as the group has previously taken control over several areas in the region.

Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Syria have killed at least 50 rival insurgents amid continued infighting among militant groups.
Opposition sources say the insurgents were killed in attacks, car bombings and summary executions by militants loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or I-S-I-L. Sunday\'s deaths came on the third day of infighting that began when militants of the so-called Free Syrian Army attacked checkpoints and bases manned by the I-S-I-L. The clashes have mostly centered in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. Opposition sources say the I-S-I-L militants summarily executed thirty of their civilian and non-civilian hostages after their base was surrounded by rival insurgents in the Harem district of Idlib province. Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Islamic Front, which is the biggest insurgent alliance in Syria, issued a strong warning to the ISIL militants, vowing to fight against the group.

A prominent human rights group accuses Israel of presenting no evidence in the case of killing two Palestinian teenagers in the West Bank in 2013.
Human Rights Watch says Israeli forces hid near schools and killed two children who posed no threats to them. In January 2013, Samir Awad was shot three times in the leg, back and head. The 16-year-old was about 250 meters away from his school when he was shot. Also in December, an Israeli soldier shot dead 16-year-old Wajih al-Ramahi in an area between his school and a market. The HRW says there is no justification for the use of live ammunitions in either of the cases. Last week, another Palestinian teenager died of the wounds he sustained after being shot by Israeli soldiers near the Gaza border.

Reports say the ring-leader of the al-Qaeda-linked group, Abdullah Azzam Brigades, was a high-ranking official of Saudi Arabia\'s intelligence service.
Media reports also say that Riyadh put heavy pressure on Lebanon to extradite Majed al-Majed before his death in detention on Saturday. Meanwhile, Iran\'s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi has said that Tehran doesn\'t have much information about the death of Majed, but it knows he died under suspicious circumstances. Majed was the man behind the recent terrorist attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut. His group launched the attack outside the embassy on November 19, killing 23 people including an Iranian diplomat. Over a hundred 60 others were also injured.
