Pakistani officials have strongly condemned a deadly US drone attack in the country\'s north-west. Pakistan\'s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that such attacks are a violation of the country\'s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also said the airstrikes have negative impacts on Islamabad\'s efforts to bring peace to the country. The statement was issued after a US drone attack on a seminary killed at least six people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The US carries out assassination drone strikes in several Muslim countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia. It claims they target militants but many civilians have lost their lives so far in the air raids.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai says he\'s willing to delay the signing of a deal with the US, known as the Bilateral Security Agreement, or BSA. Karzai told Afghanistan\'s assembly of elders, called Loya Jirga, that the deal will not be signed by the president until after next year\'s presidential election. This, as the Jirga has met today to discuss the BSA. Under the pact, American troops would be allowed to remain in Afghanistan beyond a 2014 deadline. Kabul has agreed to US military operations under special circumstances and American troops\' immunity from prosecution in Afghanistan. But, ordinary Afghans are angry over raids by American and other foreign troops. And they have held protests against the security deal with the US.

U-S national security adviser Susan Rice is in Afghanistan to meet with President Hamid Karzai. The visit comes a day after the US-Afghan security pact was thrown into limbo after Karzai refused to sign it. Karzai has told the assembly of tribal elders, known as the Loya Jirga, that the deal should not be signed until after presidential elections in April. The grand assembly had approved the bilateral agreement to keep US forces in the country after 2014. The US says a deal has to be agreed by the end of the year. But Karzai says Washington has to prove its good intentions by keeping its soldiers out of Afghan homes and promoting peace talks with the Taliban.

At least four people have been killed in two separate US-led airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan. The overnight air raids took place in Wardak province. Local officials say the victims are all Taliban militants with two commanders among them. Such airstrikes are mostly carried out by the US military in Afghanistan with pilotless planes involved. The US says it targets militants in drone attacks but figures on the ground show many civilians have lost their lives in the process.

Punjab government has taken a strong stance against the US assassination drone strikes on Pakistan by rejecting US aid for the past 2.5 years. Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said the province will reject US aid until there is a complete halt to the drone strikes on Pakistani soil.

In Pakistan\'s eastern city of Lahore, thousands have staged a protest against the US drone strikes in the country. Some five-thousand people attended the rally organized by a coalition of around 40 religious and political parties also known as Defense of Pakistan Council. They chanted anti-US slogans and called for an immediate end to the drone strikes. The protesters also called for blocking NATO supplies for Afghanistan which goes through Pakistan. The U-S drones strikes are highly unpopular in Pakistan. Activists say the US drone operations have killed thousands of civilians and injured many more. Washington claims its drone strikes mainly target militants.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has accused the US of refusing to provide his country with military supplies. He has said in a statement that the move is aimed to put pressure on him to sign a controversial security pact with the US. Washington has denied the allegation, and repeated that, unless the deal is signed promptly, it could withdraw most of American forces from Afghanistan. Relations between Kabul and Washington have deteriorated in recent weeks over President Karzai\'s refual to sign the security pact. The deal allows several thousands of US troops to remain in Afghanistan after a 2014 pullout deadline for foreign forces. Karzai has set several conditions to sign the pact which has been approved by the country\'s grand council, Loya Jirga. These include a stop to raids on Afghan civilian homes, among others.

Anti-US sentiments are growing in Pakistan, with more rallies being held against the US drone attacks. Protests have been staged in the past several days, with demonstrators pledging to keep up rallies until the U-S stops its drone attacks in their country.

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is in Pakistan with an aim to defuse tensions over Washington\'s controversial drone strikes in the country. Hagel flew from Kabul to Islamabad to meet with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other top officials-- including the new army chief. Ties between Washington and Islamabad have been seriously strained over Washington\'s deadly drone campaign in Pakistan\'s tribal areas. Human rights groups and Pakistani politicians say the missile attacks often claim civilian lives and must be stopped. In recent weeks, opposition activists in northwestern Pakistan have disrupted war supplies to US-led foreign forces in neighboring Afghanistan. The rising anti-US sentiment has prompted American officials to halt the shipments.

Alexei Pushkov says US interference in Ukraine is to show that the West is still the force that determines the course of events in global affairs. He emphasized that the West\'s meddling in the events in Ukraine suggests that the country is treated as a semi-colony. Pushkov also says the direct involvement of the EU and the US in Ukraine is a new form of political aggression. Ukraine has been hit with a wave of political unrest since late November when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a trade pact with the European Union.

In a clear signal showing Pentagon\\\'s determination to maintain its military presence in the Persian Gulf, the US Navy is expanding its Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain. Under the 580 million dollar expansion project, the Naval Support Activity Bahrain which is home to the US Fifth Fleet is expanding to an adjacent 77-acre piece of land along the waterfront. Under the plan, the US Navy base will nearly double in size. Since 2008, the base personnel has more than doubled from 3000 to 7000. The US Navy initially took over the base from the British Royal Navy in 1971 when it covered just 10 acres of land.

The Russian president says the new US sanctions against Iran will adversely affect the recent Geneva deal over Tehran\'s nuclear program. Vladimir Putin was speaking at his annual news conference in Moscow in response to a question by Press TV correspondent\'s about the recent US sanctions against Iran. Moscow has strongly opposed any sanctions outside the UN Security Council against Iran. The latest US sanctions came despite last month\'s nuclear deal, between Iran and the P-five-plus-one group, which does not allow new sanctions against Tehran.

More than a quarter of the US Senate introduces a new bill to impose fresh sanction on Iran. The bill is sponsored by 13 Democrats and 13 Republicans. They say the sanctions will be slapped against Iran if the country breaches the terms of last month\'s Geneva deal. The draft also forces the US administration to support Israel militarily, diplomatically and economically in case Tel Aviv decides to launch an attack against Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Congress has recently tripled the US government\'s requested aid for Israel. Meanwhile, the White House has highlighted the use of diplomacy as a suitable approach for resolving Iran\'s nuclear issue.

In Japan, opposition is mounting against a decision to relocate the US military base on Okinawa. Opponents are now threatening with lawsuits and protests, demanding that the base be completely moved off the island. The head of Nago group, which opposes the base, said that the organization would file a lawsuit challenging the governor\\\'s decision. Okinawa officials have approved the relocation of a controversial US military base on the southern island. About half of all US military personnel in Japan are stationed there. The stagnation of the relocation issue has been a thorn in the side of relations between Tokyo and Washington since 1996 when the two governments agreed on the original plan to move the base.

A group of lawmakers in the US have introduced legislation that would finally bring to an end Washington\'s authorization to wage war in Iraq. The introduced bill has been led by Republican Senator Rand Paul. He says that US President Obama declared the war in Iraq over two years ago. Yet, it\'s necessary to bring the war to an official and legal end. Although Barack Obama has declared the war over, a loophole in the law green-lighting the March 2003 invasion allows for future U-S presidents to send troops back to Iraq. In 2003, the US attacked Iraq under the pretext that the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. WMDs were never found in the country and the war killed hundreds of thousands of people.

The Afghan president calls for a quick end to the US drone airstrikes and military operations in his country. President Hamid Karzai renewed the demand during a meeting with a fact-finding team probing a recent US strike in the eastern Parwan province. The inquiry said earlier that the aerial attack killed 14 civilians, mostly kids. Anger has been simmering among the Afghan public and officials over an escalation in US-led strikes in civilian areas. Afghans have held numerous protests nationwide against such attacks. President Karzai has time and again slammed the drone strikes which mostly result in civilian deaths.

The White House, however, says the US will continue its aggressive enforcement of sanction measures that remain in place against Iran.

The US Homeland Security Chief is concerned about Americans who have fought in Syria and are now back home. Jeh Johnson says the issue has become an issue of homeland security. He added that law enforcement and security forces across the world are focused on foreign nationals Heading to Syria including those from the US, Canada and Europe. Western officials are concerned that their nationals fighting the Syrian government become even more radical after joining other insurgents. US authorities have confirmed that militants from some fifty countries are in Syria fighting the government there. Damascus says some western and regional countries are facilitating insurgent infiltration into the country.
